8r4d I spent a lot of the winter driving to various #cafe in the neighbourhood looking for a distraction-lite place to write and work. Then as the #spring arrived I switched to walking, trudging along the paths to my local haunts to find the same gaming-console-free no-tv nothing-to-clean space to get some more writing done. This morning I realized that with the nice weather and warmer mornings a #bike ride would substitute. So maybe I’ll spend my summer #cycling to write? As long as I can find a place to lock up. Starbucks was acutely lacking in bike racks this morning so I’m at Waves instead. #coffee

8r4d It’s one of those things that often escapes or attention in a busy busy world, and tho you might feel that my life of quasi-middling retirement cannot possibly be busy busy, I do find myself needing to pause every once in a while and reflect on the good moments and #smallthings that warm up my still chilly days. Like when I walked over to starbucks for my two hours of morning writing today and was thankful that I wasn’t in this portapotty when the wind caught it, but also when I ordered a grande #coffee but they gave me a venti by accident so that my daily chapter was fuelled by discounted (but still overpriced) caffeine. 8r4d Back home after a full (no, FULL) day of traveling, New York to Toronto (with a seven hour layover) and back to Edmonton and falling into bed just before midnight local, I was awake at 5am this morning, feeling like 7am NYC time, and pulled out one of my souvenirs even as my #coffee was brewing. Anyone who's been to the Big Apple will recognize the classic New York street vendor Happy to Serve coffee cup. I got a ceramic version at the MoMA design store, and I already miss the sounds of sirens and honking while I drink my joe and look for escaping sewer steam.
